INSTALL EGT SENSOR

For Delica L300 with 4D56

This installation will show how to install the EGT sensor in the exhaust header. There are many options for sensor wire routing and gauge placement.

Tools & Parts:

  • 19mm Socket
  • 12mm Spanner Wrench
  • 1/4″ Drill Bit
  • 21/64″ Drill Bit (tap drill for 1/8″ NPT)
  • Tap for Sensor (usually 1/8″ NPT)
  • Tap Extension/Handle
  • Zip Ties

1. Remove the two 19mm bolts and springs that secure the down-pipe to the turbo exit.

  • Spraying them with PB blaster or penetrating oil, then heating them with a blow torch may be necessary.

2. Remove the mid-pipe hanger. This is a 12mm bolt.

3. With the down-pipe out o the way, drill a 1/4″ hole in the header as shown below in red.

  • The space is tight, but will accommodate a cordless drill
  • Right before the turbo is the best location for EGT sensors.

4. Enlarge the hole with the 21/64″ drill bit (or whatever the tap drill size is). This is the tap drill for 1/8″ NPT.

5. Tap the hole. this will be tricky and may require a tap extension for the tap handle.

  • I was able to use pliers.

  • Run up next to the engine and out under the passengers seat or center console, then under the carpet to the dash.
  • Run around and in front of the engine/radiator and up through the floor following heater lines and existing harnesses.
