This guide will go over some of the tips and tricks to swap the OE instruments into the new Triple Pod.
For instructions on how to remove and dismantle the original triple pod please see the Incinometer Replacement Guide.
1. Remove connector from the original pod by unscrewing the two Philips head screws holding the mounting bracket in place.
2. Remove the mounting bracket from the connector by bending the bracket tab up and sliding it out of the connector. This can be achieved by using a small flat head screwdriver.
3. The Thermometer and connector must be removed from the original pod. Unfortunately it is a captive assembly. There are two options to extract the thermometer. The first is to de-pin the connector using a pin extraction tool to remove each pin from the connector housing, then remove the thermometer from the pod.
The second is to cut and expand the pass-through hole in the original pod so that the connector can fit through. The thermometer can then be removed from the pod without cutting any wires or de-populating the connector. This is what we did. Respective cut-out shown in red.
Whichever method you choose, handle the thermometer with care, as these antique electronics can be delicate.
4. Remove the lamp reflector by cutting the three plastic retaining nubs. They are brittle, and might just break off by hand.
5. Use the supplied screws to install the original reflector into the new pod.
6. The new pod has an enlarged wire pass-through that can accommodate the thermometer connector. Pass the connector through first, then feed the two lamp holders through after.
7. Re-assemble the connector mounting bracket to the connector.
8. Now everything else is a just a standard swap over.
Note:
Some of the mounting holes are race-track shaped in order to provide some adjustment to center instruments as needed. This accounts for any deformation in the 25+ year old plastic of the original pod face.
